Hardcover, Norwalk, CT: Easton Press. Fine. Jean Froissart (1337-1405) was a French speaking medieval author and historian from the Low Countries. The Chronicles are his masterpiece and are considered to be the most important expression of chivalric culture in 1300s Europe. The Chronicles are of vital importance to understanding the Hundred Years War and the chivalric culture of England, Scotland, and France of that time. There is some debate about whether or not Friossart ever saw combat, but he is known to have been present for many of the important political events he wrote about.
