Barrie's third novel was originally published in 1891 and was based on stories his mother told him about the town in Scotland he grew up in. Barrie turned the novel into a 4 act play which opened for the first time in Washington DC on September 13, 1897. It opened in New York on September 27, 1897 and ran for 300 performances before going to London. Maude Adams was one of Barrie's favorite perfomers and she played the role of Lady Babbie in both Washington and New York. She would later star in Barre's Peter Pan. This Maude Adams edition of The Little Minister comes with a photograph of Maude in costume with an autopen signature and all 6 photographs of her performing during the play. Previous owner signature dated 1898 on the first free endpaper. Front hinge very slightly cracked, but sound. Text and illustrations clean, spine very slightly age darkened.
