He lived in Rome near the height of the Empire before he was banished and spent the rest of his life in Nicopolis, Greece. Previous owner bookplate and gift inscription dated Christmas, 1891 in both volumes. Original bookseller stamp on first free endpaper of both volumes. Translated into English by Thomas Wentworth Higginson. Bumping to both ends of spine of both volumes. Top page edge gilts bright. All corners rubbed.
