Guy's School Geography Illustrated with 7 Maps
Hardcover, London: Baldwin and Cradock, 1821. Fourteenth Edition. Good+. The 14th edition from 1821. A British guide to geography for students containing 7 maps all of which are present. Since the book was printed in 1821, the maps are politically far out of date and depict a vanished world. The map of Africa contains many geographical errors, the book was printed more than 30 years before Burton and Speke stumbled upon Lake Victoria, and more than 50 years before Europeans began the colonisation of Africa in earnest. If you happen to be a Texan, well - Texas doesn't really exist on this map politically, the L in Louisiana on the map is roughly where Austin is today. Texas is half Louisiana and half New Mexico - the author was British, the name Mexico appears on the map - in Central America. Previous owner name and location in cursive on both front and rear pastedowns. Front gutter badly cracked, rear gutter gently cracked. Binding is holding together, but is not sound. Age spotting to maps, text is clean. Some splitting to map creases. Moderate soiling to rear cover. Book now protected in plastic cover.
