According to Penzer, the first edition was not bound as a book, it was sold in parts and was rare enough in 1923 that Penzer had never seen one. This is the second edition (first book edition). According to Penzer, Burton's Kama Shastra Society only published those two editions, the rest are pirated editions put out by unscrupulous publishers. Bound in full vellum with gold spine titles and gold trim to front cover and blind trim to rear cover. No previous owner marks. Spine slanted. Boards bowed. Spotting and soiling to front, rear, and spine of covers. Vellum on spine wrinkled all along the spine. There is a 1 inch long slit in the vellum at the edge of the spine where it meets the front cover. Binding sound, pages bright (except half title which is age darkened). G+.
