While he was curator Sclater wrote these 2 volumes on the mammals of South Africa. The Fauna of South Africa is actually a 6 volume set - 4 volumes on birds written by Arthur C. Stark and edited by Sclater and these 2 on mammals written by Sclater. We offer the 2 volumes on mammals only. According to the introduction of this work, these 2 volumes on mammals are the first time a book attempted to include information on all the mammals of South Africa. One of the more valuable (for book collectors) features of this set is the Bibliography in volume 1 in which Sclater lists the previously published books he found most helpful in his research. The list includes many important exploration and sporting books. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall. [Item #77598]
