Vellum of spine is starting to break away from the book via a single long crack. The binding itself is sound and all pages present. This is a history of the Church from a Protestant point of view. The author was a French Protestant Pastor who fled France for Rotterdam after the Revocation of the Edict of Nantes in 1685. In 1691 Basnage was chosen pastor of the Walloon Church. This history was printed in 1699. The full title of the work (translated) is "Church History from Jesus Christ to the present, divided into four Parts. The first contains the history of the Government of the Church in the Diocese of Alexandria, Antioch, Africa, of Gaul, Constantinople and Rome. Second, the history of its main tenets, the Canon of Scripture, Traditions, eight Ecumenical Councils, of Justification, Grace, & the Eucharist. The third contains the adoration of the Sacrament, the worship of angels, the Virgin, the Holy Relics, and their images, since Jesus Christ until the birth of the Albigenses.
