The Devil's Dictionary

The Devil's Dictionary

Hardcover, Franklin Center, PA: The Franklin Library, 1980. Near Fine. Bound in full genuine red leather with real 22kt gold decorations. The Devil's Dictionary originally appeared in a weekly newspaper, off and on, from 1881-1906. It first appeared in book form in 1906 under the title The Cynic's Word Book, a title Bierce hated. Franklin's Notes from the Editors pamphlet about this book included. Previous owner bookplate on series page where Franklin notes this book is part of the 100 Greatest Masterpieces in American Literature series. I bought this book from a Franklin Library subscriber who never read it. Other than the bookplate, this book is beautiful and very tight, unread. Minor blemish to top page edge. Luxury features include gilded page edges, moire endpapers, and a sewn-in satin bookmark. Ships same or next business day very well protected in a box. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall. [Item #82233]
