Eugene Elliot White was a lawyer, journalist, and Indian agent who was appointed a special agent by the Office of Indian Affairs in 1885 at the age of 31. He served first as temporary agent to the North Carolina Cherokees before being sent to the West and Southwest to serve as special agent to the Utes, Osages, Kaws, Comanches, Kiowas, and others.
