No printing date given, no copyright date given, no printing or edition information at all, presumed to be 1887 since the author was German and the German edition came out in 1886. This set in English, translated into English by Clara Bell, the extremely talented translator and linguist. Folio. Bound in publisher's brown cloth with extensive gold decorations. All page edges gilded. This is a profusely illustrated set, there are more than 300 illustrations in the first volume alone. All illustrations clean and bright. Text clean and bright. Binding of volume 1 cracked right in the middle of the book at pages 162-163, all pages and illustrations present. No previous owner marks, no age spotting, interior of both volumes beautiful. Front cover decorations bright, spine decorations a bit faded. Both ends of spine on both volumes bumped and rubbed with loss of cloth. All corners bumped and rubbed with loss of cloth. Georg Ebers (1837-1898) was a German professor and Egyptologist. In addition to discovering an important ancient papyrus and choose to increase public awarness of the wonders of ancient Egypt by writing historical novels set there. This book is his extremely well illustrated description of Egypt both ancient and modern (1886). This is a very large and heavy 2 volume set - US Domestic Media Mail only.
