On the Border with Crook. John G. Bourke.

On the Border with Crook

Hardcover, New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1891. First Edition. Very Good. John Bourke (1846-1896) won the Medal of Honor for service in the Civil War and went to West Point and became an officer after that war. He served as an aide to General Crook and took detailed notes during the Apache Wars that served as the basis for this book. It is considered one of the best books about that era. Silver front cover decorations bright. Previous owner name and date (Christmans, 1891) on free endpaper. Book has light dampstaining that does not affect most pages, but does affect the pastedowns and endpapers. Where the light dampstaining does affect the text or plate, it is only in the margins. Both ends of spine and corners rubbed. Ships same or next business day well protected in a box. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 491 pages. [Item #78918]
