The World's Edition of the Great Presbyterian Conflict Patton Vs Swing. Both Sides of the Question.

The World's Edition of the Great Presbyterian Conflict Patton Vs Swing. Both Sides of the Question.

Hardcover, Chicago: Geo MacDonald & Co., 1874. First Edition. Very Good. Dr. David Swing was Pastor of the Fourth Church in Chicago when he was accused of heresy by Dr. Francis Patton. Patton based his charge on 14 sermons Swing had given in which (according to Patton) he had preached that men were saved by works, held a "modal" Trinity, did not believe in plenary inspiration, and unduly countenanced Utilitarianism. This volume includes the full text of the 14 sermons as well as the resulting trial and verdict of the Presbytery (not guilty). Swing resigned anyway and successfully formed his own church. Includes 1 page of publisher's ads at the rear. Both ends of spine bumped. Corners gently rubbed. Age spotting to endpapers both front and rear. Ships same or next business day well protected in a box. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 69 pages. [Item #78852]
