The Unknown South Relics of Hidden Truth after Forty Years

Hardcover, Hagerstown, Maryland: Hagerstown Bookbinding and Printing, 1903. First Edition. Very Good. J. Clarence Stonebraker (1851-1929) was a long-time resident of Washington County, Maryland. His great-grandfather was one of the first settlers in the county. J. Clarence was an unrepentant southerner who seems to have written this book to delightedly bash yankees and to provide a decidedly pro-South point of view for the 40th Anniversary of the Civil War, he self-published it in his home town in 1903 instead of 1901 or 1905, perhaps as a protest to the effective date of the Emancipation Proclamation. The book is divided into 3 parts - The Cause of the War, the Progress of the War, and the Result of the War. Book's binding is rubbed at all 4 corners. Both ends of spine gently bumped. Rubbing to titles on front cover with some loss of titles. Text clean. Ships same or next business day well protected in a box. ; 16mo 6" - 7" tall; 193 pages. [Item #78829]

Price: $35.00
