The Best of the American Cowboy. Raymond Adams.

The Best of the American Cowboy

Hardcover, Norman: University of Oklahoma, 1957. First Edition. Very Good in Very Good dust jacket. An anthology of the best non-fiction about the American cowboy compiled by Raymond Adams, the great bibliographer and expert on books about cowboys, outlaws, and the old west. Adams chose the entries using 3 criteria - each piece had to be an authentic, first-hand, significant contribution to our knowledge of cowboys; it had to be written in a style that felt like living reality to the reader; and special attention was paid to pieces from books so rare and expensive that readers of normal financial means would not be able to otherwise afford to read them. Illustrated with drawings by Nick Eggenhofer. Book's spine slightly slanted. Top of spine gently bumped, corners very gently rubbed. Text and illustrations clean and bright. Dust jacket is not price clipped. Dust jacket has moderate soiling to spine and back cover. Moderate wear all along top edge of the DJ with chipping and small tears. Small tear to fold of DJ where front flap and front cover meet. Small tear to top of rear flap fold. Dust jacket now protected in plastic. Ships same or next business day well protected in a box. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 289 pages. [Item #77161]
