Limitation page indicates this book was printed on October 20, 1920 on the presses of the Universal Military Printer in Paris. A total of 2,100 copies were printed. Text by Captain Charles Delvert whose Company fought a heroic defense of Fort Vaux during Verdun and whose memoirs of the War are considered among the best WWI books. Beautiful illustrations by J. F. Boucher, who was commissioned by the French Army Museum to paint battlefield scenes during the War. With 69 full color tipped in plate illustrations by Boucher. Fifty-nine of the color plates are full page in size and are listed in the Table des Gravures. Ten of the color plates are roughly 1/8 page in size and are found throughout the text and not listed in the Table des Gravures. Two fold-out maps are laid in, the largest map measures roughly 24x24 in inches, the other is considerably smaller. Some pages unopened, but the vast majority are opened. Preface letter by Petain. Facsimile of a handwritten letter from Commandant Raynal to Delvert. Raynal was the French officer in command of Fort Vaux when it was attacked by the Germans and defended by Delvert's company during Verdun. Covers age tanned with chipping and tearing to edges.
