This book is a history of British duelling pistols and their evolution from holster pistols. The book begins with a pair of silver mounted duelling pistols made in the holster style by John Twigg of London in 1770. The book traces the many changes in style and character which marked duelling pistols during their 80 year reign, until 1851, when only three London firms were still displaying them at the Great Exhibition at Chrystal Palace. Book has many black and white photos of pistols. No previous owner marks. Text and photos clean and bright. Head of spine gently bumped. Top front corner gently bumped. Small ink stain to bottom edge of front cover. Dust jacket is bright with little fading and only minor wear. Dust jacket now protected in Mylar.
