The purpose of this periodical was to "afford a repository for much valuable material now privately held" about the history of Keene, NH and surrounding towns. The highlight of this first issue is first part of the reprinting of the Journal of Abner Sanger. Abner Sanger's journals were written in 1773-1794. He traveled to Cambridge, MA with the Militia after Concord and was later imprisoned in Keene being a suspected Tory. This issue also contains a story about "Rough and Ready", the first train engine to roll into Keene. Binding is split from the top till about a third of the way down the spine.
