Pondoro Last of the Ivory Hunters

Hardcover, Long Beach, CA: Safari Press, 1989. Very Good in Near Fine dust jacket. This edition published by Safari Press. Second Printing of the Safari Press edition - has a numberline ending in 2. John Taylor was an Irishman who spent more than 30 years hunting in Africa. He killed more than 1,000 elephants and preferred large rifles and catridges such as the .450/.400 Nitro, .500/.465 Nitro, and .375 Holland. The British expelled him from Nyasaland in 1958 and sent him to London, where he died destitute in 1969. Taylor was the son of a wealthy Irish surgeon and American (Louisiana) mother. His banishment from Africa and subsequent inability to find work with a British rifle maker were probably due to his support for Africans and his harsh words for British Imperialism. Spine slightly slanted. Spine gently bumped at both ends. Front board slightly bowed. Text is clean and bright. Dust jacket is price clipped. Dust jacket is clean with only a bit of fading. Ships same or next business day well protected in a box. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall. [Item #70356]
