Captain Samuel Foster was a member of the 24th Texas Calvary Regiment (dismounted) in Granbury's Texas Brigade. Their division commander, General Cleburne, called the Texans a "band of heroes." This is Foster's diary of everyday life in the Confederate Army. Included in his reminiscences and diary are the battles of Arkansas Post, and all the great battles of the Army of the Tennessee including Chickamauga and Franklin. Foster was also a prisoner of war.
