Softcover, Washington DC: 1883. First Edition. Very Good. Eight pages from the records of the Senate of the 47th Congress, 2nd Session. The pages include a letter from the Commissioner of the Department of the Interior to the President Pro Tempore of the US Senate. The letter and the accompanying testimony refer to the theft of 705 ponies from Red Cloud and his Indians. The theft was committed by the US Army which then sold the ponies. Red Cloud's testimony in front of the Commissioner for Indian Affairs is included. The Department of the Interior recommends that the Indians be paid $20 per pony, but that the payment come in the form of cattle. The Indians have their ponies stolen, and get them replaced with cows. I bet they were happy. Ever tried to ride a cow? Ships same or next business day.
