Drawings of the North American Indians. George Catlin.

Drawings of the North American Indians

Hardcover, New York: Doubleday & Company, 1984. First Edition. Near Fine. George Catlin left his home in New York to travel west in 1830. This oversized book contains 215 drawings of Native Americans done by Catlin in his journeys. It also contains his notes on each drawing. He visited 45 different tribes between 1830 and 1840, meaning his drawings were done well before the final Indian Wars of the 1870s changed Native American life forever. This volume is a facisimile copy of one of the exceedingly rare original editions. Although Doubleday states this book is a First Edition on the copyright page, they obviously meant it was a first edition of the facsimile edition. Doubleday's explanatory page for the volume laid in. Introduction by Peter Hassrick. Comes in matching slipcase. This is a large and heavy book - international shipping will be extremely expensive. Priority shipping will also be very expensive. US Media Mail only. ; 4to 11" - 13" tall. [Item #78770]
